Nootropics Safety and Side Effects

In this video I am going to share with you what you need to know about nootropics safety and side effects.

How safe are nootropics to use every day and for the long-term?

I will cover what a nootropic is and how nootropic supplements are different than “smart drugs”.

Then you’ll learn why many journalists, medical professionals, and others who haven’t done their homework get it wrong.

Part of the problem with Western medical journals is a lot of nootropic compound research has been done in countries other than the United States. Often in languages other than English. And are not included in databases like PubMed or Medline.

We’ll cover how nootropics alter brain function. How many nootropic supplements are contraindicated with and can interact with prescription drugs. And how to find out what you must avoid if you are using meds to stay safe.

You’ll learn how some supplements have a cumulative effect when used long-term and how to avoid problems.

Learn the truth about dependence and what happens when you stop using a nootropic. Will there be a problem?

The lack of regulation of dietary supplements compared to prescription drugs means it is your responsibility to learn as much as you can about a supplement before using it.

Most nootropics affect neurotransmitters in your brain. And why caution is advised using any supplement.

We’ll talk about why it is important to understand potential side effects before using a nootropic supplement.

I’ll also discuss tolerance and why some get better results by cycling certain supplements.

And if you suddenly quit using a nootropic are you going to go through withdrawal? You’ll find out by watching this video.

I had a doctor give me a supplement one time that had huperzine-A in it, and it spiked my blood pressure dangerously high. I reviewed all of the ingredients in the supplement, and determined that it was the huperzine-A that caused it because high blood pressure is listed as one of the potential side effects. My doctor knew that I had high blood pressure, but he still gave me the supplement without any warning like you just gave. So what you said about knowing more than your doctor when it comes to supplements is so true. That’s why it’s a complete joke when we are advised by everyone involved with supplements to check with our doctors because most of them have no idea. Thanks ??

I first started taking nootropics a few month before a small pituitary tumor was found. I wonder if any of them did it. None show it as a side effect but maybe taking x with y has its own side effects. But I think the extreme benzodiazepine taper that caused so much damage and constant stress did it.

    Guide/Consider:
1.Drug dose [pharmacology 101]. I always start with the dose listed on the label or go with much lower dose to start. If you have liquid/tincture you can put 2-3 drops on your arm or tonuge to rule out allergies.
2.Don't mix herbs/nootropics that have opposite effects of each other like sedative with stimulant.
3.Before taking any medication check if it doesn't interfere with diabetes, blood pressure, statin drugs,bi-polar disorder and other medical conditions you have etc.
4.Some medications/nootropics cannot be taken with certain foods: grapefruit, turmeric, cranberry, alcohol, thyme, black pepper, ginger, ginseng.
    5. St John worth herb interferes with many medications esp antidepressants, skullcap/kava linked to liver damage.
6.Cycle herbs/nootropics few days/weeks on and few off. Your body get use to them. If your body get use to the effect then you need to increase dose or take a break then resume.
7.Antidepressants interact with many adaptogens (ashwagandha, rhodiola, schisandra).
8.Check how medication is processed/affected in the liver to avoid system overload, when taking few meds that affects the same liver pathways
9.There are studies that some herbs/products from China/India have heavy metals in them, and adulteration/contamination of the fields where the plant was grown. Always ask the company you buy from for the certificate of analysis for heavy metals to email you. If they refuse/cannot provide don't buy their product.
10.The addictives silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, sodium benzoate are bad addictives liked to reduced absorption in intestines and some are cancer causing
    11. Many drugs can cause: libido issues, neurotransmitter issues, antibiotics will kill good/bad stomach bacteria. You need to fix your digestion/absorption with probiotic after antibiotics use. Before taking anything see your doctor for advice.

Thank you, as always! I began a run of NAC and l-theanine, with caffeine in the morning and without in the evening, last week. I like it so far. It seems to do a good job of mellowing me out without dragging me down like responsible use of phenibut and even sometimes ashwaghanda can. But the phenibut will come in handy for bad days. I plan on seeing what NAC and noopept do for learning soon. I think NAC and DHA will be daily for a while. I have been taking astaxanthin for most of the past four years for a couple of things non-related to the brain–and honestly I don't think it helps with my brain. The same goes for B complex, but I do take it regularly.

Oh, and I started giving my cat L-lysine 100mg, 2X/day for an upper respiratory issue. He's getting old so hopefully it will help his brain, too.

I was getting ready to order a year supply of several antiaging supplements. Listening to many videos, love yours. Thank you for your vast amount of work and sharing the information. However I listened to one and at this time do not remember where, that stated cancer cells contain NAD and that taking NMN could cause them to grow. Being a breast cancer survivor and having another rare cancer in an eye oil duct that was sucessfully removed, it made me wait to order until I find out more. Have you heard anything about this or have any information? I am 67 years, have chronic Lyme so really could benefit from these supplements for overall vitality and feeling better. The worst thing I have done for my health was to have radiation for the breast cancer, it tanked me like nothing else. I would really like to be able to walk further than my mailbox and enjoy my retirement. Thank you again for all you do!

Thank you sir for all that you share? Please let me know is black seed oil safe during pregnancy or if one is trying to fall pregnant, also is the oil more beneficial than crushing and eating the actual seeds?

It is too bad that this channel will never get popular. At least as popular as others. Because people nowadays need entertainment, cliffhangers, clickbait, popular topics referenced etc.

Don't be discouraged please. You are doing EXCELLENT WORK. The amount of time you must have spent to acquire all this information is enormous. The amount of work you've put in. And your website and your channel are such a great source of precisely the kind of information a person needs to actually implement substances in his/her life and enhance productivity and well-being.

The way you've laid out information about every compound is superb, and very useful. You explain everything that needs to be known to make an educated decision about if and how to include certain item into your supplement routine. I also want to mention it's great that you mention when NOT to take a substance or when it is better to achieve similar results via other ways. I, for example, decided to cut my 5-HTP usage and also cycle it month on – month off, after hearing your arguments against its use. The science you refer to is solid, yet I have found it not once mentioned on other channels and information sources, and I tried.

Your approach is truly scientific, and that's such a rare thing to encounter in modern content, even "educational" content. Unfortunately, as I said the beginning, pure education isn't popular these days, you can only piggy back it off entertainment, sadly. In practice this means that I have, despite my best effort to find this kind of education, spent months studying less useful sources, until I have finally stumbled on your channel, and then, your website. It just is not as promoted as the more popular entertainment+education content 🙁

Please keep doing this. Your work is extremely important and very useful. Eventually people will stumble upon your content and it's going to bring them TREMENDOUS benefit if they stay and study it thoroughly.

David I noticed that when I take otc Sudafed my foggy brain is cleared up. I suppose it is the norepinephrine effect helping.
I have tried NALT and DLPA and L-Tyrosine but none help like Sudafed (pseudoephedrine). Any other nootropic suggestions? Maybe I need prescription adhd med ?

  • Claudia

Not directly related to this video, but have you ever looked into Marine Phytoplankton? Apparently it clears brain fog and has other positive effects on the brain.
