SURE 2013: Reconstitution of the Blood Clotting Cascade using Phosphatidylserine-Containing Vesicles
A brief summary of work done towards developing an artificial platelet. The aim was to construct phosphatidylserine-containing vesicles at the micrometer scale capable of binding collagen and activating thrombin. This was achieved by combining techniques of bottom-up synthetic biology with existing knowledge of the blood-clotting cascade.
